2008年榆神高速公路的考古工作中,于神木县西沟乡西沟行政村瓜地渠自然村东北约1公里处发现秦汉建筑遗址(图一).该遗址位于榆神高速公路k86+ 080至k86+160段,东距神木县城约5公里,GPS坐标38° 49.57′N,110°25.05′8″E.一、西沟瓜地渠遗址的发掘1.探方发掘与遗迹瓜地渠遗址地形北高南低,呈缓坡状,地表植被茂盛.遗址东临村民耕地,南、西均临近黄土冲刷沟,神延铁路从遗址南300米通过,再往南为204省道.依勘探资料,布2列正南北向10×10米探方10个.探方编号从南向北、从西向东依次为T0101、T0201至T0105、T0205.实际发掘8个探方(图二).地层堆积较简单.第一层为耕土层,黄褐色,松软,含沙量较大,富含植物根系、瓦砾残片,厚8～20厘米.其下即为夯土墙、基础及踩踏面.
