作为詹姆逊乌托邦思想的集大成之作,《未来考古学》从历史的角度审视文学生产,对作为政治构想和文学文本的乌托邦世界进行了全面而系统的研究(涉及乌托邦的矛盾张力、乌托邦的欲望、乌托邦的复调性等问题),试图挖掘出其中深刻的意识形态内涵。詹姆逊认为,在后现代资本主义社会,人类亟需复活乌托邦精神——尽管其具有不可避免的自我矛盾性和不可实现性,但乌托邦文本的意义本就不在于指导政治实践,而是凭借其内在的张力,引发社会批判,不断产生新的乌托邦视野,从而实现对当代社会的改造和修正。
As a masterpiece of Jameson’s utopianism, “Future Archeology” examines literary production from a historical point of view and conducts a comprehensive and systematic study of the utopian world as a political conception and literary text (concerning the utopian tension, the utopian Desire, utopian polyphony and other issues), trying to dig out the profound ideological content. Jameson believes that in the post-modern capitalist society, mankind urgently needs to revive the utopian spirit - despite the inevitable self-contradictory and unrealistic character, the meaning of utopian texts is not to guide political practice, but to rely on Its inherent tension has triggered social criticism and has constantly brought about a new utopian vision so as to achieve the transformation and revision of contemporary society.
