According to figures published in the “International Financial Statistics” in March 1989, the total annual import and export trade in the three years from 1984 to 1987 increased from US$3,469.6 billion to US$4,717.5 billion, an increase of 30.74%. However, the development is very unbalanced. Take 1987 as an example: The total import and export trade volume of the 20 industrial countries is 3.55 trillion U.S. dollars, accounting for 73.78% of the total import and export trade of the world; the annual import and export trade volume of 120 developing countries is 1.2505 billion. The U.S. dollar only accounts for 26.22% of the total import and export trade of the world. From the point of view of development speed, there is also a great disparity. The total import and export trade volume of industrial countries in 1987 increased by 38.79% compared with 1984, and developing countries only increased by 12.39%. There are 9 countries in the world with annual import and export volume of 1600-780 billion U.S. dollars, and 23 countries import and export annually.
