This report defines some of the more important parameters of the force feedback accelerometer, analyzes the source of the error, and gives an overview of the method by which the accelerometer can be identified and calibrated. The emphasis is on the accelerometer as a separate component rather than as a navigation system or other system components to be discussed. We hope to include sufficient information on both static and dynamic performance that will make this report a valuable reference for a wide range of potential users and those related to accelerometers in more specialized fields. This report is an ongoing improvement and development of the technical note IAP 1076 published by R.A.E in 1960. The new material is primarily concerned with viscous damping (oil-filled) accelerometers and a more in-depth analysis of the dynamic response of gas filled and oil filled accelerometers.
