Objective To evaluate the early diagnostic value of somatosensory evoked potential (SEP) and peripheral nerve conduction velocity (NCV) on diabetic neuropathy. Methods Surface median nerve was used to stimulate the median wrist of the wrist to make obvious contraction of large intertidal muscle. The potential changes of cortical, subcortical and peripheral nerves were recorded by evoked potentials. The 91 DM patients were tested and compared with normal healthy subjects. Results The abnormal rate of P1 N3 at the top of SEP was 46 2%. The abnormal rates of N13 P15 and N13 N2 0 were 224% and 18 7% respectively. The abnormal rate of NCV was 52.2%, which was significantly different from the control group <0 .0 1. Conclusion SEP and NCV contribute to the early diagnosis and treatment of diabetic neuropathy.
