裴休,大唐名相,山西运城人。他原本与湖南无多大渊源,但因送了儿子到宁乡密印寺代皇帝出家礼佛,死后又葬于沩山,便与湖湘有了密不可分的关系。长沙橘子洲、益阳白鹿山都有亭纪念他,名曰裴公亭。长沙裴公亭已毁,益阳裴公亭尚存,瞻仰之游人依然络绎。亭中题联甚多,以海印上人之作最为脍炙人口:资水滔滔,淘尽古今人物,问裴公何去,云树犹存,遗址怅空亭,白鹿不来秋欲老;江风浩浩,吹开天地尘氛,喜海宇荡平,烽烟都净,名山寻旧约,黄花应笑我归迟。
