Choritoneura fumierana is the most devastating Lepidopteran pest in northeastern North America. It caused serious financial losses in many parts of Canada and in parts of the United States. This leaf-roll moth is a native pest that has been severely damaged in about 30 years in non-controlled forests. Due to the sampling problem, population estimates for normal years are not very accurate, but the number of adults per hectare is about 100-5000. Larval density can reach 1,000 needles per square meter for rampant infestations, and 100,000 to 1,000,000 adult fecundities per hectare may also be the most conservative estimate.
