Based on a risk assessment by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), in May 2013, the European Commission (EC) approved three new neonicotinoid insecticides, the Thiamese Amines and imidacloprid, Syngenta’s thiamethoxam, banned for two years on crops that attract bees or other pollinators. In August 2013, both companies filed a lawsuit against the European Commission. The EFSA assessment focuses on the risk assessment of the three major routes by which bees are exposed to insecticides: Pesticide residues in plant nectar and pollen that have been medicated; seed produced when pesticide-containing seeds are planted or when pesticides are applied by particles Of the dust; Shi pesticides spit the liquid pesticide residues. They found that in all three cases pose a threat to bee survival.
