Aims To investigate the vestibular function of parachutists and the impact of skydiving on vestibular function. Methods The nystagmus of 207 airborne and 92 Army Corps soldiers (control group) was examined with electronystagmography. Results The incidence of positional nystagmus was significantly higher in the airborne units than that in the telecommunication soldiers (P <0.01), and its nystagmus intensity was also greater than that of the communication soldiers (P <0.05). The number of patients with nystagmus increased with the number of parachutes (P <0.01). There was a significant difference in the incidence of positional nystagmus between the number of parachutes and the number of parachutes (P <0.01). Conclusions Skydiving can impair the vestibular function and propose four indications for evaluating vestibular dysfunction caused by parachute jump
