Kate Chopin’s work The Awakening was rediscovered by critics and experienced by American feminists after nearly half a century of neglect. Among the many reflections brought by this novel, the growth and awakening of Edna’s female consciousness have become the focus of commentary. It is not only related to the interpretation of Edna’s character, but also closely linked with the theme of the novel. Based on the understanding of the unique local colors reflected in the novels, this paper analyzes the influence of Creole society on Adina’s consciousness of women by focusing on the history and social background of the novel.
