陈鹤琴是我国著名的幼儿教育家,现代儿童心理和家庭教育学的奠基人,他的教育思想涉及家庭教育、幼儿教育、师范教育、特殊教育等方面,其中“活教育”思想是陈鹤琴教育思想体系的核心。“活教育”思想的产生有其时代背景,也有其实践渊源和学术渊源。“活教育”思想是批判传统教育的弊端、吸纳当时国际教育新理念、进行中国化新教育实践探索创新的成果。
