Chlorinated polyethylene (CM) with a saturated backbone and polar halogen groups enables cross-linked elastomers to have heat aging, ozone and oil resistance properties. CM has been used in many overlays such as fuel-resistant and oil-resistant hoses, power steering hoses, oil-resistant hoses, and other applications. CM can be cured with peroxide or a nucleophilic sulfur thiadiazole derivative (TD) cure system. Although TD is the product of choice for many end-users, its vulcanization and poor storage stability limit its widespread use. This article discusses the modified TD vulcanization systems used in CM elastomeric compounds and discusses the two technological innovations - using chelation techniques to improve vulcanization stability; using different accelerators to adjust vulcanization Rate and stock storage stability. The improved vulcanization process eliminates the major disadvantages of the TD vulcanization process, resulting in better vulcanization stability and longer shelf life of the compound. Promising CM products have good physical and processing properties due to the greater use of peptizers and fillers.
