The main payload of the BIRD microsatellite is a newly developed hot spot identification system. This is a mid-infrared and thermal infrared dual-channel imaging instrument based on a cooled mercury cadmium telluride line detector. This is a very effective design by miniaturizing the instrument by integrating the detector with the refrigerator. The weight of the BIRD microsatellite is 92 kg, with a payload of 30%. Since its launch in October 2001, the satellite has been in full operation. Among other things, BIRD satellites have detected forest fires in Australia, volcanoes in Chile and burning coal mines in China, as well as measuring their range, temperature and energy release. Given the current state of the satellite payload, it may be used to carry out new missions.
