1991年,日本千叶,作为五虎将之一,他在41届世乒赛上亲身经历了中国男队跌入谷底的惨败;1995年,退役出国后,代表日本三立兹俱乐部打联赛,他所在的俱乐部在冲入一部(相当于中国的超级联赛级别)的头年就获得了联赛冠军;1997年,他为了一个梦想回国,并被任命为北京男队的主教练,那年,他不满30岁;3个月后,他被莫名其妙地“下放”到北京女二队执教;2001年,由于执教当时的北京华联商厦俱乐部男队取得了不错的战绩,九运会后,他被再度任命为北京男队主教练;2005年,没有一个大牌的北京首旅俱乐部在他的带领下,在新赛季乒超联赛中横扫众多强队,目前暂列积分榜第二位。
