中国戏曲与观众长期以来紧密的联系,是因为戏曲艺术有着强烈的假定性,戏曲艺术离不开观众,相信并依赖观众;观众与戏曲赤诚相见,并与戏曲艺术有着非常不可说、不可预知的一种默契,来融入戏曲艺术表演之中。而戏曲艺术也是通过观众的丰富想象力达到作品的最后创作的。布莱希特就曾大赞中国戏曲是世界上最伟大最神奇的艺术,而中国的观众更是令人惊讶和高度赞叹的。众所周知,我们中国的戏曲有着非常独特之处即:虚拟性和程式性。
