清乾隆至嘉庆时期,在文人荟萃、商贸繁华的长江京口(今镇江)地区,活跃着一支规模不大的艺术家集群,画史上将其称为“京江画派”或“丹徒画派”。这一画派的画家人数虽然较少,其声望也无法与相邻的娄东、虞山画派乃至扬州画派、金陵画派诸家齐名,但他们却与其中一些名家有着师承关系或朋友交往。这种艺术上的联系和生活中的往来,一方面提高了他们自己的创作水准,另一方面则为那些名家丰富了艺术素材。因此,京江画派在当时画坛上既占有一定地位,对清中晚期绘画艺术的繁荣也有较多贡献。
