Placental protein 12 (PP12) is one of several proteins isolated from the normal term placenta. It is a glycoprotein containing 4.3% carbohydrates with molecular weights ranging from 25,200 to 51,000. The biological role of PP12 has not yet been clarified. PP12 concentrations in fetal and maternal serum ranged from 40 to 460 μg / l, whereas amniotic fluid concentrations were 100 to 500 fold higher. PP12 is located in the placenta syncytiotrophoblast and decidua. Here we report that by immunohistochemistry, PP12 is a progesterone-dependent protein that appears in the intima before and after implantation.
