《中国大百科全书·新闻出版》卷是新中国成立后第一部权威性的大型工具书,是全国700多位专家学者集体劳动的丰硕成果,它标志着我国新闻出版事业长期实践经验进一步系统化、科学化、理论化,它对我国普及新闻与出版学术知识有着重要的意义。全书共设1630个条目,120万字,161幅彩色图片,450幅随文插图。全书时空范围,上自公元前3500年,下迄20世纪90年代;地区范围,包括世界各国,但以中国新闻出版事业为主。除正文外,还附有中外新闻出版大事年表,是一部全面、系统介绍新闻与出版学科知识的大型工具书。大百科新闻出版卷《新闻学基本概念》分支条目的缩写工作,经历了将近三年(1985年5月——1988年3月)的时间,终于顺利地完成了定稿工作。新闻学基本概念分支共设120个条目,其中新闻理论概念条目54个,新闻工具及传播形式条目54个,新闻组织机构条目12个。从条目的内容分析,专门介绍无产阶级新闻理论概念的有12条,专门介绍西方新闻理论概念的有8条,其他都是介绍中外新闻共性知识而又以介绍中国新闻知识为主的条目。
“Encyclopedia of China Press and Publication” is the first large-scale authoritative book after the founding of People’s Republic of China and the fruitful result of more than 700 experts and scholars working collectively in China. It marks a long-term practical experience of China’s press and publication business. It is of great significance for popularizing news and publishing academic knowledge in our country. The book consists of 1630 entries, 1.2 million words, 161 color pictures, 450 illustrations with the text. The scope of the book time and space, from 3500 BC, the next until the 20th century, 90 years; the scope of the region, including all countries in the world, but the main cause of China’s press and publication. In addition to the text, is also attached to a chronological list of major events in China and foreign countries, is a comprehensive, systematic introduction of news and publication of large-scale knowledge of the book. Encyclopedia press and publication volume “basic concepts of journalism” branch of the abbreviation work, after nearly three years (May 1985 - March 1988) of the time, finally successfully completed the finalization work. There are 120 entries in the basic concept branch of journalism, including 54 concept articles of news theory, 54 news articles and communication forms, and 12 news organization articles. From the content analysis of the article, there are 12 articles devoted to the concept of proletarian news theory, 8 articles devoted to the concept of western news theory, and the others are articles that introduce the common knowledge of Chinese and foreign news and mainly introduce Chinese news knowledge.
