Tissue temperature changes affect the nerve conduction velocity (NCV) routine examination the only obvious non-pathological factors. A number of in vitro and in vivo factors may cause temperature changes in upper and lower limb tissues. In order to control the in vitro factors such as room temperature changes in the determination of NCV, some researchers adapted the 30 minutes in a thermostatic chamber to reduce the NCV changes before taking the test. This is particularly important for the determination of NCV in the distal limb segment, where the temperature may be lower than body temperature in colder temperatures. The time it takes for lower temperature limbs to return to normal tissue temperature in a thermostatic chamber may be longer. The required room temperature and accommodation time before NCV testing are not specified.
