According to Angelo Avogaro, PhD, of the University of Padova Medical School in Italy and colleagues, acute alcohol consumption improves the insulin action in patients with type 2 diabetes but does not affect the secretion of β-cells. Moderate alcohol consumption can improve glucose metabolism in the body, and can extend people’s life; but unfortunately, the daily alcohol content in the diet should be strictly controlled within 40g per day. Among 8 healthy volunteers and 8 type 2 diabetes volunteers, Dr Avogaro and colleagues studied the effects of alcohol on glucose tolerance. Subjects received a total of 40 g (40% alcohol content) of vodka and received intravenous glucose tolerance test; control group patients
