One study found that those who lack sleep are prone to gain weight. Experts say that it is time to look at whether more sleep can resist obesity. One of Northwestern University’s physicians, Fred Turck, said: “We stressed too much about diet and exercise but we failed to recognize the benefits of good sleep.” A total of 1,000 individuals were surveyed in this study and found that with the increase in body mass index, overall sleep time decreased. Surveys show that men sleep on average 27 minutes less than women, while overweight and obese people sleep less than normal weight. Overall, the fatter subjects had about 1.8 hours less sleep per week than normal weight subjects. The number of people suffering from obesity in developed countries has increased dramatically and even reached a level of popularity in the United States, leading to many health problems.
