Five hospitals in Rochester, New York, extracted 1% of the medical income of surgical adult patients in 1989 as quality incentive funds. Make these hospitals available funds of 2.25 million US dollars, the hospitals with better efficacy will share more bonuses. Members of the Rochester Regional Hospital Federation participate in the implementation of the program. The purpose of the pilot program is to examine whether the bonus has an impact on the hospital’s medical quality. Review data: These 5 hospitals collected data from 40 internal and surgical wards, and measured the hospital’s risk based on the morbidity and mortality of each ward.
