Tuberculosis is an ancient contagion that has prevailed throughout the world and claimed the lives of hundreds of millions of people. China is one of the 22 countries with a high burden of tuberculosis in the world. The Ministry of Health conducted four rounds of tuberculosis investigations from 1979 to 2003 in the country.
