华容县国营东湖渔场现有养殖水面29618亩,其中精养鱼池1618亩、大湖28000亩。近年来,1000亩精养成鱼池,单产已过500kg,而28000亩大湖单产年年在5kg左右徘徊,1990年大湖鱼产量只有140t,如何开发东湖是一个迫在眉睫且科学性很强的问题。从1991年起,东湖渔场把工作重点转移到大湖开发上来,当年就取得了明显的效果,大湖产量达到了201t;1992年在各级领导的大力支持和大湖开发课题组的具体指导下,进一步加大了大湖开发力度,大湖鱼产量达到492.5t、
