Raytheon Systems has completed the first phase of the development of the U-2 Reconnaissance Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar System-2 (ASARS-2), which was initiated by the U.S. Air Force Aviation Systems Center Reconnaissance Systems Planning Office (RSPO) Which uses COTS technology to enhance the combat capability of the entire ASRS-2 fleet by adding real-time accurate target aiming, wide-area weather cover, onboard processing, measurement intelligence application images and moving target display. The improvement program began in June 1996 when it signed a $ 220 million contract with Hughes Aerospace Corporation (today’s Raytheon Systems Company), which is split into phases in which the original ASARS- 2 devices (including scanning antenna, transmitter and low voltage power supply) and 2 new units based on COTS hardware (receiver / actuator / controller (REC) and airborne processor).
