Since the Third Plenary Session of the 11th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, there has been an important shift in Chinese scholars’ understanding of Western historiography. This change of understanding is an important factor for further understanding of Western historiography and learning from Western historiography to develop Chinese historiography. The recent development of Chinese historiography in the past 20 years is closely related to this understanding and reference of Western historiography.
