In the year of Jyohei, the Japanese oldest Dictionary was compiled, which name is“WaMyoRuiJyuSho”.This book quotes mainly from Chinese ancient classics. It also quotes fromJapanese ancient classics. And, among the Japanese ancient classics the following books arefrequently quoted. They are YoShiKangoSho (KangoSho),BenShiKiRitsuSei, which usually called bya joint name,“KangoSho”.While, when “WaMyoRuiJyuSho” was being compiled in the past, these books were lost.Only some parts of them left. Thus, in this thesis, author used “WaMyoRuiJyuSho” to find therelationship between “KangoSho” and “WaMyoRuiJyuSho”.In chapter one, in order to find what kind of quotation is used in “WaMyoRuiJyuSho”, aninvestigation was made. Through this investigation the percentage of Chinese and Japanese ancientclassics is clear. And how many times “YoShiKangoSho””KangoSho” and “BenShiKiRitsuSei” havebeen quoted is also clear. The result shows that few Japanese ancient classics is quoted, and amongthe Japanese ancient classics, the most frequently quoted kind of books are those called “KangoSho”.In chapter two, through Professor Kuranaka SuSuMu’s reports and “ShoHonShuseiWaMyoRuiJyuSho”, the relationship between “YoShiKangoSho” and “KangoSho” is found. Theresult is that “KangoSho” is an abbreviation for “YoShiKangoSho”.In chapter three, the relationship between “YoShiKangoSho” and “BenShiKiRitsuSei”,and the importance to “WaMyoRuiJyuSho” is cleared. As the preface of “WaMyoRuiJyuSho” says, the contents of “YoShiKangoSho” and“BenShiKiRitsuSei” are almost the same. Thinking of “BenShiKiRitsuSei” is always listed before“YoShiKangoSho”, maybe the former is more important than the latter. But, through an investigationof the two books’ quotation, it turns out that they are equally quoted and they have the sameimportance to the editor Minamoto.
