Impact of pH value on YAG∶Ce nano phosphor powders prepared by back titration

  In wet chemical method for preparation of YAG∶Ce nano phosphor powders, the pH value of the reaction system delivers essential impact on the crystal size, calcination temperature, and dispersibility of the crystal powders.Nevertheless, systematic study on the impact of the pH value is absent.Through adjusting the ratio R of precipitant ammonium hydrocarbonate to the total metal ion in the solution, the pH value of the reaction could be controlled in the range of 4.1-8.3.Calcination temperatures of 1050 ℃ and 1300 ℃ were compared for their impact on the crystallization of YAG∶Ce nanophosphors.Acidic condition is more preferable for improved YAG∶Ce nanophosphors through XRD spectra analysis for the type of crystals and the crystal size.ICP-AES analysis was performed to determine that the molar ratio of Y3+ to Al3+ at R =1∶3 is close to the stoichiometric ratio of YAG∶Ce.SEM images showed the YAG∶Ce nanophors prepared at acidic condition having smaller crystal size and improved dispersibility.Consequently, theoretical knowledge could be proposed for further sintering of transparent ceramics.
