Protein glycosylation plays an important role in patho-physiology, and much effort has been devoted to detecting glycoprotein biomarkers. In this work, Concanavalin A (ConA) is conjugated to magnetic microspheres for the selective capture of glycoproteins from unfractionated protein mixtures. The selectivity and binding capacity of ConA-modified magnetic microspheres (MMPs) were evaluated by using standard glycoproteins (ovalbumin) and nonglycoproteins (bovine hemoglobin and lysozyme) as model samples. The results demonstrated the purposed ConA-modified MMPs have high selectivity and binding capacity toward glycoproteins compared to nonglycoproteins.
