By rotating a rigid rotor in the stationary casing,rotating packed beds adopt higher centrifugal acceleration in mass and heat transfer operations to achieve process intensification.The inside dynamic seal between the rotating rotor and the stationary casing usually uses packing or centrifugal liquid ring dynamic seal to ensure gas passage through the rotor.The gas in the casing may bypass the rotor and make a short-cut through the inside dynamic seal so that the purity of the gas product is reduced,if the dynamic seal system is not perfect.A model of gas short-cut through inside seal was established to predict the effect of short-cut gas on gas concentration at the inner periphery of the rotor.Both the theoretical plate number of total-reflux distillation with ideal system and the total number of gas transfer unit of low concentration gas absorption decrease with the increases in the ratio of short-cut gas rate to total gas rate,which indicates that the reliability of dynamic seal has a direct impact on mass-transfer in rotating packed bed.
