In recent years, with the popularization of computer technology, the input of Chinese characters (typing) has gradually become the main way for people to express in written form. There is also a voice in the teaching of Chinese as a foreigner: is it necessary for foreign students to write Chinese characters? Should they be alleviated in teaching? At the same time, is it necessary to introduce Chinese character input into Chinese teaching? This article has investigated the junior and senior students of Beijing Foreign Studies University Chinese Training Center on this issue. The results show that most students agree that writing Chinese characters is an indispensable part of Chinese learning and help to remember the vocabulary. The necessity of learning Chinese characters has also been affirmed. Almost all students learn Chinese characters by themselves, but there are some differences in learning attitudes and needs between junior and senior students. Junior students prefer Chinese input more than senior students, and their desire to systematically learn input method is also stronger. They also believe that inputting Chinese characters helps to enhance self-learning ability.
