Sewage sludge ashes are rich in phosphate content and the recovery of phosphate from them has been carried out in Japan. At a sewage treatment plant in Morioka the solid-liquid separation of the sewage sludge is employed using iron polysulfate as a flocculent followed by incineration resulting in high content of iron in the sewage sludge ash.
