Tetraploid varieties of lilies have superior agronomic traits such as large flowers and resistance to physiological disorders.In the present study,we attempted to induce 2n female gametes of hybrid lilies by arresting mitotic division during gynogenesis with nitrous oxide (N2O) gas.Small floral buds of diploid plants of Asiatic and Oriental hybrids were treated with N2O gas under pressure for 48 hours,and then the N2O-treated plants were crossed with untreated Asiatic (4x) and Oriental hybrids (2x).
