Cervical cancer is the most common cancer among Thai women.Treatment of high grade cervical cancers with standard regimen does not improve the prognosis and often results in drug resistance phenotype.Etoposide or VP16 has been incorporated in an alternative drug setting for cervical cancer therapy of both squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma.However, long-term administration of etoposide has been reported to increase risk in drug resistance.Here, two different HPV infected human cervical cell lines (HPV18 positive HeLa and HPV16 positive SiHa) were selected for etoposide resistance and compared for their genome alterations involving drug resistant mechanisms.Both resulting cell lines had 5 fold increase of etoposide resistance as compared to their parental lines.
