  The polymerization of proteins is involved in numerous neurodegenerative diseases as prion or Alzheimer diseases.The growth-fragmentation PDE provides a relevant first modeling of the elongation and breakage of the polymers.After an overview of recent results on the long time behaviour of the linear growth-fragmentation equation,we will derive more realistic nonlinear models.These new models will be analysed by taking advantage of a self-similar change of variables.
