Objective: To examine the prevalence and treatment of hypertension with poorly controlled diabetes mellitus in China.Methods: The study was conducted in 1511 type 2 diabetes mellitus with inadequate responses to two or more oral anti-diabetic therapy for >3 months (HbA1c>7.5%) from January 2011 to September 2012.Hypertension was defined as blood pressure ≥140/90 mmHg or use of any antihypertensive medicine.Clinical and biochemical characteristics, level of blood pressure and antihypertensive medicine were measured.Results: 1289 patients completed the study.The prevalence of hypertension in Chinese poorly controlled diabetes was 27.6%, of the hypertensive patients, 76.7% taken prescription medication.The achievement of target blood pressure (≤ 140/90 mmHg) was 75.9%, among the antihypertensive medicine calcium channel blockers were the most commonly prescribed (12.6%) , followed by angiotension Ⅱ receptors blockers (9.8%).The least utilization of antihypertensive medicine was diuretics (1.6%).The percentage of patients with one, two, three and more than three medicine was 15.8%, 6.5%, 0.8% and 0.2% respectively.
