The electrochemical oxidation of methanol on ITO electrode directly modified with the Pt nanoparticles loaded on nano-TiO2 was studied by with/without UV illumination in alkaline medium.Surface structure and morphology of Pt-TiO2/ITO electrode were characterized using SEM,EDX and XRD analysis. The results showed that a highly dispersed Pt nanoparticles was obtained. The electrochemical performance on Pt-TiO2/ITO electrode for methanol oxidation was markedly improved by 50% under UV illumination compared to that without UV illumination. In addition, the reaction activity and the poisoning resistance of the electrode performance for methanol oxidation can be significantly improved through the induction of TiO2.The optimum mass ratio of Pt to TiO2 was 1:2.
