There are increasing data to show that sonodynamic therapy (SDT), is a promising new modality for cancer treatment. However, few clinical data on SDT has been published in the world. One reason is the difficulty in finding a drug suitable for clinical use.Recently two new sensitizers, SF and UF had been developed by our cooperation with the late Donald Burke MD, USA.Our own animal studies demonstrate that SDT with the sensitizer does inhibit growth of mouse S-180 sarcoma, even when the tumor was covered by a bone.An in vitro experiment with human breast cancer cell line showed that SDT was synergetic with chemotherapy; very small amount of chemo can enhance SDT tumorocidal effect remarkably. We have also developed a series of equipments for SDT clinical us, and established a protocol for systemic sono-and photodynamic therapy (SPDT).From 2005 to 2009, we consecutively treated 7 advanced refractory breast carcinoma patients using SPDT (equipment and sensitizer were supplied by EEC Biotech Co., Ltd,as a subsidery of Science Group Pty Ltd.from Australia). All these carcinomas were pathologically proven, and all patients had failed conventional therapies.Sensitizer was given to patients through lingual absorption for 2 or 3 days.
