Thanks to the participation in the Shanghai "Beautiful Countryside" Youth Creative Design Competition,the author’s team carried out the rural revitalization planning and design of S Village in Shanghai,and put forward and practiced the rural planning and design method with the villagers’ needs as the guide and the goal of stimulating rural endogenous power.The purpose of this paper is to present the specific operation path of investigation,data analysis and strategy determination of this method,and to provide a new perspective for the current rural planning and design.Meanwhile,the mechanism for rural planning and design competition is analyzed.Investigation:in this research,the gradual investigative steps are adopted,and the comprehensive information is gradually and deeply obtained according to the order of establishing contact,grasping the current situation and exploration deeply,and then the village problems are identified through data analysis.Data analysis:based on the interview content and questionnaire statistics,and supplemented by photos and on-site observation records,the data are cross-referenced,summarized and integrated into the main points.First,it is divided into four aspects,namely environment,industry,elderly-care and organization,and then each aspect is subdivided.A total of 13 categories of major items of problems and 6 categories of resources are obtained:1.In terms of environment,the problems include lack of infrastructure,poor landscape and environment,lack of cultural space,short of entertainment life,and dilapidated and aging houses.2.In terms of industry,the problems include lack of characteristic industries,serious waste of resources,low attraction of tourism resources.And the resources include rich agricultural activities and strong emotional connection.3.In terms of elderly-care,the problems include serious aging,lack of elderly care services,monotonous life for the elderly.And the resources include positive attitude towards life and stable guarantee of policies.4.In terms of organization,the problems include unsmooth organization and lack of deliberation system.And the resources include adequate participation capacity and rural policy support.Strategy determination:according to the issues and resources of above four aspects,a comprehensive strategy for the revitalization of S Village is proposed,with organizational construction as the basis,industrial revitalization as the key,environmental improvement as the carrier and pension welfare as the guarantee.Despite that the author’s team has conducted a systematic and in-depth investigation of S Village,there is a lack of villagers’ joint participation in exploring problems of S Village.In the problem investigation stage,it is difficult to realize the participation of villagers with the competition mechanism,and therefore cannot reflect the subjectivity of villagers,and the specific items are as follows:1.The competition mechanism makes it impossible for the participatin
