Fluorescent semiconductor quantum dots(QDs)have achieved wide-ranging applications in the biological and electronic field,accompanied with increasing concerns about their biosafety.The majority of QD-related toxicity studies focus on the subcellular processes in cell cultures or physiological aspects in animal models.However,it is unclear how QDs affect cellular processes in live organisms,or how the subcellular disturbance contributes to the overall toxicity.
