Gene therapy has gained significant attention as a potential method for treatment of both acquired and inherited diseases.1,2 Cationic liposomes are widely used as nonviral vectors for gene delivery,of which the main drawbacks are the cytotoxicity and the possibility of binding to anionic serum proteins.3 To avoid these drawbacks,novel thymine-based lipids were designed for the trans-membrane delivery of nucleic acids.Thymine(thymidine) was used as hydrophilic headgroup in these lipids,connected with hydrophobic aliphatic chains.
