Learning healthy ways of living is central for the rehabilitation of patients with coronary artery disease.In order to develop a patient-centered education model, we used the idea of problem-based learning (PBL).PBL has been used in the undergraduate programs at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Link(o)ping University since 1986 and with that experience in the research group, a program for cardiac patients was developed.The program consisted of 13 sessions in groups of 7-9 patients and a tutor during a year.Main topics for the sessions was decided within the group and focused on smoking cessation, change of diet, physical activity, drugs and side-effects, stress, anxiety and how to handle the disease.
