[Objective]To investigate the effects of organic fertilizer application on levels of antibiotic resistant (ART) commensal bacteria in commercial lettuce and soil samples, and to provide basis for risk assessment of contamination and migration of ART bacteria on fresh lettuce.[Methods]Potting experiment and plate count method were used to analyze the levels of commensal bacteria, which were resistant to seven antibiotics included cefotaxime (CTX),erythromycin (ERM),sulfamethoxazole (SUL),tetracycline (TET),doxycycline (DOX),ciprofloxacin (CIP) and nalidixic acid (NDS) respectively,in soil samples and lettuces grew for 30/45 d of organic manure treated group and control group.[Results]The percentages of TETr,CIPr,NDSr,ERMr and SULr bacteria were obviously increased in 30 d and 45 d soil samples after applying organic manure. Moreover, the percentages of seven ART commensal bacteria in lettuce samples of organic manure treated group were higher than that of control group, expect that the TETr and DOXr were not detected in 30 d lettuce samples.[Conclusion]The contamination levels of ART commensal bacteria in commercial lettuce and soil samples would be increased by applying organic fertilizer which was rich in ART bacteria, and horizontal gene transfer could be one of the mechanisms that the antibiotic resistance migrated from soil to lettuce.
