Chlorogenic acid as antioxidtion,exists in edible and medicinal plants widely cultivated and consumed in the world.In dose-dependent manner,chlorogenic acid was effective at protecting PC12 cells against methylmereury(MeH-lg)-induced cell damage,and was a potent antioxidant and ROS scavenger,not only suppressed the generation of ROS,the increase of activity in glutathione peroxidase(GPx) and the decrease of GSH,but also attenuated caspase-3 activation,DNA fragmentation induced by MeHg,and eventually protected against MeHg-induced apoptosis.Our data suggested that chlorogenic acid may exert neuroprotective effects through its antioxidant actions.The results suggested that chlorogenic acid could he of considerable chemopreventive and therapeutic significance to some free radical associated health problems of various neurodegenerative conditions of metal-induced neurotoxicity as well as ageing and other diseases such as Parkinsons and Alzheimers diseases.Furthermore,the finding gave better fresh light helpful for understanding of the health benefiting potential of polyphenols such as chlorogenic acid in the edible and medicinal plants consumed by human for centuries.
