Introduction:Therapeutic treatments of septic forms of equine osteoarthritis (S-OA) are difficult because of pure understanding disease induction (Ross and Dyson,2003).That is why the study of S-OA is of great interest.Using matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) as equine OA markers (Clegg et al.,1997),we showed that normal (N) equine joint cartilage extracts and those of N cultivated chondrocytes display mainly MMP-2,as the samples ofN synovial fluids (SF) do.Contrary,SF from the joints with S-OA contained up to 14 different MMP fractions including MMP-53 kDa (K),MMP-2,MMP-85 K,MMP-9 etc.(Karakine et al.,2007).To mimic this phenomena for detailed analysis,in particular for drug screening,an equine chondrocyte cell culture model for "in vitro" induction of S-OA was developed.
