We demonstrated the combination of QDs (e.g.CdSe, CdTe and HgCdTe) and ZnO nanowires for photoelectrochemical water splitting [1].Employment of QDs in water splitting system has major advantage.The efficiency for water splitting reaction can be exactly measured in aqueous system without sacrificial reagents.The maximum photoconversion efficiency of 1.83％ was observed at an applied potential of～ 0.25 V.
