  Caulis Lonicerae is an important traditional Chinese medicine used for the treatment of acute fever, headache, respiratory infection, epidemic diseases, etc.The reported active components in Caulis Lonicerae are loganin, sweroside, chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid, rutin, and galuteolin, etc.Chinese Pharmacopeia 2010 regulates Caulis Lonicerae with different HPLC methods for the determination of loganin (using a phenyl stationary phase) and chlorogenic acid (using a C 18 phase), respectively.The quality control for Caulis Lonicerae, therefore, is inconvenient (i.e., two methods) and inadequate (only two target components).Besides determining loganin and chlorogenic acid, some evaluation methods for the quality control of Caulis Lonicerae use an HPLC method to determine sweroside, caffeic acid, rutin, and galuteolin, etc, on a C18 stationary phase.However, these methods require long separation times (≥ 30 min) and have insufficient peak resolution between loganin and sweroside.
