Backgrounds/Aims Obstructive jaundice (OJ) is frequently complicated by infections and has been associated with increased bacterial translocation, intestinal epithelial hyperpermeability, and oxidative stress. However, the precise pathophysiology of OJ remains unclear.Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) is a stress-response protein that plays an important protective role against oxidative injury. In this study, the ability of the antioxidant resveratrol (Res)to induce HO-1 and regulate intestinal epithelial dysfunction in vitro and in vivo was evaluated.
