Target identification and validation are the first key stages in the drug discovery pipeline.For natural product scientists,there is an ever-increasing demand to identify the target(s) of known or unknown bioactive natural products.Numerous technologies have been developed to identify and validate the drug targets based on the experimental approaches.However,these methods have limited application due to their laborious and time-consuming nature.As a complement to the experimental methods,a series of computation aided tools have been proven as novel approaches for target fishing and ligand profiling,such as reverse docking,structure-based pharmacophore searching,ligand similarity measurement.
