1971年7月9日至11日,美国总统尼克松的特使、美国国家安全事务助理基辛格,在访问巴基斯坦期间,装病暗赴北京,与周恩来总理密晤,协商尼克松访华事宜。据说,最初双方会谈气氛紧张,一谈就是两个多小时,但没有进展。到了午饭时间,大家都腹如雷鸣,周总理适时地说:“我们不如先吃饭吧,烤鸭要凉了。”
From July 9 to July 11, 1971, U.S. President Nixon’s special envoy, Kissinger, a U.S. national aide to security affairs, mounted his secret plan in Beijing during his visit to Pakistan and met with Premier Zhou Enlai to discuss Nixon’s visit to China. It is said that during the initial talks, the talks were tight and the talks lasted more than two hours but no progress was made. At lunch time, everyone was in a thunderstorm. Premier Chou said in due time: “We should not eat at first, and the roast duck will be cold.”
